Former Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts principal Ryan Imbriale, now executive director of the Department of Innovative Learning at Baltimore County Public Schools, has been named one of the Intel® Education Visionaries, an elite group of approximately 40 education leaders from all over the world who will be exemplars for global education transformation; inspire and share best practices with other educators, administrators and parents worldwide; and help Intel design the future of education technology.

Imbriale was selected as an Intel Education Visionary on the basis of his insight, passion, and proven experience as an agent of change in education. From Oct. 11-14, he attended the Intel Education Visionaries kickoff event at Intel’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, which served as the official launch of the program. The event brought the Visionaries together to collaborate with other educators and leaders, participate in immersive professional learning sessions, and hear from industry experts.
In addition to being invited to the Intel Education Visionaries kickoff event, the program will provide Imbriale with opportunities to meet and collaborate with other Visionaries worldwide; attend global conferences, events and webinars with Intel Education as appropriate; receive unique professional learning opportunities; and be featured in Intel’s global education communications.

Imbriale leads BCPS’ acclaimed instructional digital conversion initiative, S.T.A.T. (Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow). He has spent his career in education focused on how technology can empower student learning. Prior to coming to BCPS, he was facilitator of the Maryland Students Online Consortium, working with 17 Maryland school systems, as well as coordinator for professional development at The Johns Hopkins University Center for Technology in Education. Ryan has extensive experience presenting to audiences on online and blended learning, learner-centered environments, curriculum design, and effective leadership.

Imbriale joined BCPS as an instructional technology specialist and then assistant principal. Before overseeing the Department of Innovative Learning. When Imbriale was Patapsco's principal, the school was named one of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ National Schools of Distinction in 2009 and was recognized by the College Board as the Middle States winner for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts in 2012.

Imbriale is a former member of the Board of Directors for ISTE, the International Society for Technology in Education. In 2012, he was named a Phi Delta Kappa Emerging Leader, and, in 2013, the National Association of Secondary School Principals named him a National Digital Principal of the Year.
