The man shot by Baltimore County officers after he threatened them with knives has been identified as Jeffrey Gene Evans, 52, of the 4000 block of Bay Drive in Middle River.

Just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 14, Baltimore County Police and Fire units responded to a home in the 4000 block of Bay Drive in Middle Riverfor an attempted suicide. The caller to 911 said that a man at the location had taken a large amount of pills.

When officers arrived on the scene, they met with the complainant, a woman in her late thirties, at the front door. The woman went outside while officers went inside and made contact with the live-in boyfriend, a man in his early 50s. Officers began speaking with the man and attempted to talk him into going to the hospital. When officers were unable to convince him to go to the hospital voluntarily, at least one taser was deployed in an effort to bring him under control. The taser deployment was not effective.

The man then reached into a kitchen drawer retrieved several knives. He advanced on officers with those knives. Another taser was deployed against the man, but it was not effective. Three officers then fired, striking the man.

The man was declared deceased at the scene.

The Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit is on the scene investigating. The Homicide Unit investigates all police-involved shootings. After the investigation is complete, the report will be turned over to the Baltimore County States Attorney’s office for review.

The officers involved in this shooting are placed on administrative status while the incident is reviewed.
